Qutub Minar lights up in 'Jashn-e-Matdan' amidst general elections 2024
India's Rohan Bopanna etched his name in tennis history by becoming the oldest man to secure a Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open 2024. Partnering with Matthew Ebden, Bopanna, aged 43, claimed the men's doubles title in a thrilling match against unseeded Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
The second seeds secured a 7-6 (7/0), 7-5 triumph on Rod Laver Arena, marking their first title as a team and Bopanna's initial victory in men's doubles after 60 previous Grand Slam attempts – a record for most attempts before clinching a win. Additionally, Bopanna is set to achieve the distinction of becoming the oldest number one in men's doubles history when the updated rankings are released next week.
This historic win adds another milestone to Bopanna's tennis career, complementing his previous Grand Slam victory at the 2017 French Open in mixed doubles alongside Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski. Matthew Ebden also celebrated his second men's doubles title, having won Wimbledon in 2022 with fellow Australian Max Purcell.
